The GALPROP program (http://galprop.stanford.edu) computes cosmic-ray propagation in the Galaxy, in 2D or 3D. The ouput cosmic-ray distribution is in the form of FITS files which however are not convenient for viewing or plotting with the standard ftools program fv, since the files have 4 or 5 dimensional arrays (due to the momentum and species axes) while fv handles only 3 dimensional arrays. ...To obtain manifestly accurate solutions an explicit method is now available to replace the Crank-Nicolson operator-splitting method. This can be implemented in the public version of GALPROP with the update provided here. Instructions: replace the four files propel.cc, propel_diagnostics, Galdef.cc and Galdef.h and rebuild the executable. Add solution_method and solution_convergence to the galdef parameter file. A test GALDEF file with these parameters is galdef_54_reltest09; the diagnostics document the accuracy of the solution. Aciqra is a virtual planetarium and sky mapping program which tracks celestial bodies including planets, deep sky objects and stars to an accuracy of a fraction of a degree for thousands of years into both the future and the past. It includes the 2.5 million stars of the Tycho-2 catalog supplemented by data of 120,000 stars from the Hipparcos catalog, 13,000 deep space objects from the NGC and IC catalogs and a large number of asteroids and comets from the Minor Planet Center. The application allows the user to create and save a profile of a given observatory's FITS header format, for future sorting use. -
