0 A.D. (pronounced "zero ey-dee") is a cross-platform real-time strategy (RTS) game of ancient warfare. It's a historically-based war/economy game that allows players to relive or rewrite the history of ancient civilizations, each depicted at their peak of economic growth and military prowess.

...A Java developer or designer is welcome to collaborate on the development. As the title suggests, the game is not yet finished, but it is playable. Developed solo over half a year, with 500 KB of source code and AI-generated graphics. As you can see from the screenshots, the game is designed in a pixel art style. ...Weapons may be independently targeted, and it is possible to utilize anti-munition weapons during defense. Captured ships can be added to your fleet, and other AI players may join the cause. This project is currently pre-alpha, but preliminary code can be compiled to give the test environment with currently implemented functions. The intention is to introduce each game element as, and when, the implemented module is capable of supporting it.

...One of its most important features is the ability for extension modules to be added that can change just about any feature of the program; from new weapons and devices, to adventure modules that add new 'mini-plots' (similar to the Galactic Adventures DLC for Spore), to modules that replace parts of the core game. This functionality is supported by the game being written in Python 3, with its powerful support for including external code at run-time. The graphics will be a simple mixture of 2D raster and vector imagery with text-based menus, and the music will be highly reminiscent of the 80's 'chiptunes' that made up the soundtracks for games on the Amiga and Commodore 64.

A turn-based, 4X strategy game with some real-time tactical and also role playing aspects. I've been planning this game on paper for years and am now starting to code (Jan. '11)
