Good to hear this software is of help to you. Actually there is an easy way to import the medicine. If you go to the home screen, then manage your database, you will find the import and export options there. Add some medicine to a database, export the medicine table through the export option then check how the data is formatted. If you can change your excel file with all the medicine accordingly then you will be able to use the import function to get all the medicine in the database. Furthermore, the 4GB is a limitation of the database engine used, which is outside of my control for this version of MedRec.
To translate MedRec, if you download the source code zip file, there is a folder named MedRecLNGeditor, go there and then folder bin, and then folder debug, run MedRecLNGeditor.exe. Locate MedRec language XML file and open it. Now you can translate the english phrases to Portuguese. Make sure to make proper backups before starting.
Good luck!

Cheers,
I especially love the portable version. Too bad it doesn't work on Linux, but I read that you are looking for a solution, which is great;)

I'm not very sure about the 4GB size limit of the database. Is that a choice or a sofware limitation?

Another question, I managed to download an excel file with all the medicines sold here in Portugal. Is it possible to import them into the database? It would really simplify things.

I also would like to have it translated to my language. How exactly do I do that? Could you guide me?

Cheers,
I tried this in the latest version (1.6) and it is working fine pasting info into fields adding a new physician. Maybe I am doing somethig different.

Could you please discribe the exact steps on how to reproduce this problem?

Many thanks.

In fact, this section has already been quite re-designed in the new upcoming version of MedRec. Although the approach is a little different as from you have suggested. Instead of "Physicians" it is now called "Health Professionals" and there is a distinct section for emergency and insurance contact information. However, it should not be a lot of work to change it a bit and see if it would be more user friendly the way you have suggested.

Thanks again and I will provide updates soon about the new version.

Perhaps you could modify the physicians list to be the more general "Contacts" list. Then add a classification "Contact Type" field that would include updatable items such as I mentioned: emergency contact, medical provider, insurance, pharmacy, etc.

Users manual

I am a retired technical writer and would be interested in helping you with the user manual. I attempted to run CGS Medrec using Wine under PlayonLinux and it did not work. WPF is not supported by Wine nor Mono. Sigh! In order to run on Linux, the application would need to be ported to a cross-platform graphical user interface like QT or GTK+. I think someday it may work under Mono when enough M$ dotNet code is open sourced. In the meantime, I guess I'll have to revert to Windows if I want to run your fine application.

About getting CGS MedRec on Linux, for now you might try to run it with Wine or WineHQ. Would that be an option for you?
For the coming future, I am currently working on the new version and porting the code to C# which could run on Linux more easily, if compiled with Mono. The downside is that I am also using WPF to write the UI, which is currently not supported by Mono unfortunately. The positive is that I am employing the MVVM model, making it much more easier to write an interface supported by Mono, as an alternative.

Since I don't have Linux installed I am unable to test if CGS MedRec actually will run under Wine(HQ) for you, or in the future if compiled with Mono. However, if by any chance you will, please fell free to share your experience!

Thanks again for your kind comment and good luck!

Best,
