Firstly, thx for this great solution.

I'm getting an issue during hostname change using local file (relation between hostnames and mac address).
This issue occour when my computers have more than 1 NIC (Netowk Interface Card).

For exemple:

drbl-winroll runs at first time (post syspreped image in destination hardware).
this hardware have more than one NIC, but one phisical:
Phisical NIC (mac target)
Virtualbox
NCAP
VPNs like OpenVPN.

My problem: (Random NICs provided by third softwares) .
Each NIC has a physical address (Mac). The unique MAC addr is present in Phisical NIC and others can varies (hardly to register all these in host file).
When drbl-winroll runs at first time AND have more than 1 NIC, this will cause rename host with randon name).

Suggestion: Its possible make drbl-winroll catch all local possible macs addresses (1 mac each nic) and find one if corresponding in hosts.conf? finally, host name will change corretly in scenarios that have multiple random NICs.

Thx so much!.

Questions about Windows clients to accept the commands form DRBL

Thank you so much for your reply.

Below is my understanding from your rpely:

A.If need clients pc change IP/HOSTNAME/WORKGROUP/AD automatically according to MAC address list that in config file of cygwin folder, must install the cygwin software on client PC,

Can NOT do it like DRBL server send commands to the pc without cygwin software on it.

B.Clients pc must install the cygwin software to running the commands that can be excuted under Windows or Cygwin environment from DRBL server.

C.The DRBL server can send command to force PC that with PxE boot function boot up.

Please correct my understanding has some item wrong.

Thank you.

Questions about Windows clients to accept the commands form DRBL

Basically, DRBL would send comand to clients via ssh service running by cygwin running under clients (Windows). So, clients can run any command what can excute under Windows or Cygwin environment.
Please refer the follow to learn how to send command under DRBL server:

I solved it by changein it from: HN_WSNAME_PARAM = /N:X540Y-$MAC[+6]
to HN_WSNAME_PARAM = X540Y-$MAC[+6]

i removed the /N: and it solve my problem and fixed it :)

But now i sometime end up with another problem, and that is all computers end up with same +6 mac adress in the end, so all computer names are the same like" X540-D77A50"

Computer name end up wrong

Hi Tricitm ,

Please use file : https://github.com/ceasar-sun/drbl-winroll/blob/master/sbin/winrollsrv.sh to relpace the old one as c:\cygwin\sbin\winroll.sh in Windows clients and have a test.
Please send the result via drbl-winbroll_bug_report if it work failed.

Computer name end up wrong

I use DRBL-live and istalled BRBL-winroll on one computer, where i took image.
When i roll out multi cast to 20 computers, after they all have started, there computer name where the mac adress
I did config it to be PCname-+6 MAC adress.
But all computers after multi cast restore end up with only +8 Mac adress as computer names.

Anyone know why?
In the config i have: HN_WSNAME_PARAM = /N:X540Y-$MAC[+6]

Problems with hostname change

Ha, in fact , the hostname's parameter is inherited from wsname.exe , like $IP , $MAC .
Thanks for your suggestions and we will implement these features as soon as possible.

Problems with hostname change

Ok... hostname change by MAC address seems to work correctly now (thank you!).

But you should fix this function when the IP address is specified: both "dashed" and "dotted" styles actually change the hostname in "S-MAC Address" as above.

Problems with hostname change

oh... , forget to say:
In hosts.conf , use dashes in MAC of IP address, ex:
00-0C-29-4E-EF-53 = IGC-Internet1
or
192-168-209-51 = IGC-Internet1

NOT '000C294EEF53 = IGC-Internet1' , excuse me.

I also fix the document just before. please refer to :
