I think I figured out the problem. Microsoft retired SHA1 signatures. When I try and install the service I get . . .

System error 577 has occurred.

Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source.

Event Viewer is telling me the same. Until the driver signature is corrected Ext2Fsd, I believe, will not install and thus will not work.

I cannot get ext2fsd to display the Ext2 Volume manager screen (to present mount points or the Ext volumes). The task manager shows both the Ext2Mgr.exe and Ext2Srv.exe both running. I am trying to run this on Win 8.1 64 bit. I tried clicking on Ext2Mgr but it only starts another task of Ext2Mgr. I uninstalled Ext2 from my system and reinstalled it. No luck! What can I do now?

i cannot get Ext2fsd to display the Volume Manager GUI on WIN10 I have version 0.69. Task manager shows 2 entries for Ext2fsd Service Management (32bit) (ext2srv.exe)and Ext2fsd Volume Manager for Windows (32 bit) (ext2mgr.exe)Task Manager shows both under Back Background processes but NOTHING under Apps where I expect to see Volume Manager GUI(ext2mgr.exe) . It works fine on my other laptop running Windows 8.. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled Ext2fsd , tried running as Administrator with no help
Under services the service name shows Ext2 Management Service Ext2 Management Module status is running Startup Type is Automatic and :Local System. Don't know what else I can provide for troubleshooting.

Can't open mounted ext4 partitions

Using V 0.69 under Windows 10 x64
Volume Manager starts and shows Ext4 partitions (as Ext3) of an SSD USB connected drive.
However mounting them as Windows letters succeeds in the Ext2 Volume Manger but the Windows disk manager shows them as unformatted and asks for formatting. As such the volume remains unusable both for reading and writing. I think I better uninstall the driver than to risk corrupting my SSD. Sorry.

Got the exact same issue today with version 0.69 on Windows 10 Pro x64 2004 (19041.508). I had to use a restoration point to fix my system.

I don't know if it's linked to incompatibility with Ext4 64 bits volumes…

Hello!
Sorry for using this old post, but i have the same problem !
I've a Dual Boot with Windows 10 last version and Ubuntu 20.04 LTS !
When i use Ext2FSD , it works perfectly with my external USB drive and recognized in EXT4, but the Master partitions (/ and Home 20.04) on SDA are recognized in ext3 and no possibility to change its in setting ! Perharps a new version (0.70) can solved this trouble) ! I use Windows only for Games and Ubuntu for all works i need ! Thand for this program !

Problem still exist with new window 10 and Ubuntu installation using ext4 partition format. Am using v0.69 of ext2fsd. System has never had 0.68 installed. Old laptop with both windows 10 and Ubuntu 18.04 and ext2fsd v 0.69, works correctly.

Installs OK, but service won't start so no EXT2 etc file system support. Current Windows 10 x64 as of 24-Dec-2019. Thanks!

Unmount bug

Dear developers and forumers!

I think it is better to address this problem to the developers here, since the forum is mainly for users and, to my mind, is not the right place to trace and debug the driver's code.

We still cannot use version 0.69, since the unmount bug persists! It reveals both under Windows 7 x64 and Windows Server 2012 R2 (and, probably, in other Windows versions). As there was no reaction to my previous messages (on the forun), I should mention the details to make you understand the problem better. I think many of us use the external USB HDD drives, particularly with NTFS partitions (with write caching enabled). The bug can be reproduced the following way.

Install Ext2fsd 0.69 driver under your Windows system with the command line:

setup.bat wxp amd64

(This syntax is also for Windows 7 )

Reboot the computer.

Mount the ext (ext2/ext3/ext4) partition on the internal HDD, assign the letter, create directory or write some files to the partition (i.e. write something there)
Plug in the external USB drive (with NTFS partition). Make sure that the letter is assigned, for e.g. k: (You may do some operations on the volume – read/write files, so on).
Make sure volume k: is unlocked, try to unmuont it. The easiest way to do it is to run

mountvol k: /p

The thread hangs on the unmounting!!!

The unmount attempt is effected, for e.g., when you run chkdsk with ‘/F’ parameter and it finishes checking the volume, when you try to reboot the computer with plugged-in USB drive. The USB drive partition may remain dirty then. So, I can niether check my USB drive, nor unplug the drive with unmouting, nor reboot the machine, if version 0.69 is installed! What is more important – access to EXT partitions or USB storage? Therefore, I have to use 0.52 by far!

So, who can tell me what is happening? I’m sure that many people have noticed the problem. With great pleasure I would assist in debugging the driver, in testing the attempts to correct the bug.
