The “Save as DAISY XML” add-in was created through an open source project with Microsoft, Sonata Software Ltd. and the Digital Accessible Information System (DAISY) Consortium and can be downloaded on SourceForge.

DAISY Translator Version 2.1.1, An Open XML to DAISY XML Translator is now available on sourceforge for download.

This version fixes the bugs in the previous release and has some feature enhancements

Design of the translator is to translate from Office Open XML format to DAISY XML format.

Now, Office XP and 2003 are not in the said format therefore before trying to convert a document created in Office XP or 2003 please follow the instructions given below:

1. Download and Install Microsoft Office compatibility pack for Word 2007 from the following link http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=941b3470-3ae9-4aee-8f43-c6bb74cd1466&displaylang=en
2. Save the document in Office 2007 format.
3. Save the document in DAISY Format.

First milestone achieved

We are happy to announce that the project is right on schedule as planned, we have completed development of a translator for around 13 important features of DAISY. Currently we are in the process of testing it.
If everything goes according to the plan this translator with 13 basic features should be available for download on SourceForge as early as 1st Week of February.
