PPR is a print spooler for PostScript printers or non-PostScript printers with Ghostscript. It has support for AppleTalk, JetDirect, and SMB with the aid of Samba.

Version 1.55 has been released. This is a maintainance release which fixes bugs and compatibility problems with 64 bit Linux.

PPR 1.54 released

PPR version 1.53 has been released. This release features redumentary IPP support sufficient to print from KDE, Openoffice.org, and Mozilla.

PPR 1.53b1 released

Version 1.53b1 of the PPR print spooler has been released. This is a beta release and is very close to what will be released as 1.53.

Highlights of the changes since 1.53a1:

* Added an editps filter for MS Windows XP.

* Fixed support for the PROS protocol for print servers.

* Improved support for USB.

* Added more support for browsing list of available printers to the WWW printer setup wizard.

PPR 1.53a1 released

Version 1.53a1 of the PPR print spooler has been released. This is an alpha release and is not recomended for critical print servers.

Important changes include:

* The browser compatibility of the web interface has been vastly improved while approving its appearance and usability in sophisticated browsers.

* Corrected internationalization problems.

* Removed PostScript versions of the preformatted documentation in order to reduce the size of the source code archive. The PostScript versions and still be build, and prebuilt PDF versions are still provided.

* Added automatic probing for printer type to assist in selecting a PPD file. This works from the command line with the "ppad ppdq" command and from the web interface.

* Fixed a bug affecting PageMaker 7.0.

* Fixed ppr-clean. Bugs prevented it from doing its job which is to remove leftover temporary files.

* Expanded format of lprsrv.conf to allow for rules which match hosts listed in additional files in the style of /etc/hosts.lpd.

* Completed papd which is the replacement for papsrv. It provides vastly simplified configuration and the ability to adjust to configuration changes without restarting.

* Rewrote ppr2samba to use a new queue configuration reader library which was written by papd.

* Added IPP support sufficient to print from the KDE desktop using PPR a drop-in replacement for CUPS. The IPP support is not yet standards complient and is still far from complete.

There were of course a large number of smaller bug fixes. A lot of work was also done to clean up code which was standing in the way of furthur progress. Several complicate sections were simplified by using a simple exception handling system based on setjmp()/longjmp().

PPR 1.50b1 released

Version 1.50b1 of PPR, a print spooler for PostScript printers has been released. Hopefully this will be the last test release before 1.50, so get your bug reports in. The release includes an RPM which was built on a Mandrake 9.0 system.

PPR 1.50a2 released

This release contains fixes for bugs in PPR 1.50a2. The last stable version (1.44) is having compatibility problems with new versions of other software (such as Perl), so we want to make a 1.50 release as soon as possible.
