Session syncing

I have been really looking forward to the day that PSM came with session syncing.  However, it only seems to be syncing IP, Name, and Folder.  What about port number?  I think that's the only thing missing from the sync.  All the attributes don't need to be synced like they are in the Registry export.  But I would like the port number to be passed along.  I have several switches that I use SSH, some that use Telnet, etc.

Is there some way of doing an automatic sync?  Maybe scheduling it to sync every 30 mins or something like that?  We are adding new switches to our network all the time and there are a few of us engineers that do it.  So it would be nice to add a switch and have it available to all the other engineers without having to manually sync the sessions.

      Hi Shane

Apologies for the slow reply - I've been on holiday!

Including port number and protocol in the session synchronisation is a very sensible suggestion - just not one I'd thought of ( all my sessions are SSH ).

The automatic sync is also a good idea - but probably needs a bit more thought and work to implement.

I'll open feature requests for both of these.

      Kind Regards
      David

Any word on either of these features or has the development of this software come to a halt?  It seems no one is really active in developing PuTTY software anymore.

    Hi,

Apologies, I haven't really spent much time on PSM recently.  The port and protocol changes are committed in the source code, and I'm working on a command line version that will support the sync function , which could then be scheduled as you wish.

    Kind Regards
    David

It looks like syncing is wiping out sessions. Here's what I'm doing, please let me know if I've done this incorrectly:

    1)  Export sessions and store the file on a network share.
    2) Sync PSM with laptop so that it gets the sessions.
    3) Add session(s) to desktop, sync with file on network share. Select Update for the new sessions.

When I do this, it wipes out the new sessions. How can I get PSM to  a) add the new sessions, and b) remove any sessions that I have deleted on my other system?

    Hi,

Sorry - I missed your first post.

I'm not quite sure I understand the issue you are having.

I think the process you should be following is:

    1.  Create Sessions on Desktop
    2.  Export sessions to network share from Desktop
    3.  Sync laptop PSM with file from Network Share
    4.  Add sessions to desktop
    5.  Export sessions to network share from Desktop
    6.  Sync laptop PSM with file from Network Share

    etc…

The sync process is a one off process - it does not keep the file on the share up to date - it's just a point in time copy.

The model above would work where the Desktop is the "master" and the laptop is the "slave".

Is that what you meant - if not could you try and clarify the question?

    Hope that helps

    Kind Regards
    David

Hi, I like PSM, but manually synchronize from file is poor solution. It is possible that you write some synchronization to/from database? - DB like MySQL?
