ok thanks, I'll give that a try. Out of curiosity will this work if you were wanting to merge 2 instances i.e. A + B --> C? Can you merge two data folders, dump/import 2 db's?

If you need to migrate all data from one seeddms installation to another then just copy the data folder and dump/import the database.

I'm using mariadb with no plans to change. I surmized from previous discussions on similar topics xmldump and xmlimport were the recommended tools? I'm not married to any method, anything that gets the job done!! The goal being to move documents from A to B. Thanks.

Do you really need this tools? Which database are you using? Are you planing to change it?

Hello,
I’m trying to export/import documents from “seeddms2” to “seeddms3” using the tools in utils: seeddms-xmldump and seeddms-xmlimport. Seeddms2 is version 6.037 seeddms3 is version 6.039. seeddms3 is “empty”.

I browsed through the discussions and the help options in both utilities, but I cannot get this to work. There are NO errors in the apache2 log. The import to seeddms3 seems to create folders and documents but all the documents (pdf files) are 0 Bytes with a black triangle indicating “application/x-empty”. /RD1 is where the applications are installed, with soft links to /var/www/html. I even tried exporting the documents from the respective db (tbldocuments)...didn’t get me anywhere!! I presume xmldump means the documents come with it!!

**export/import statements:

sudo -u www-data utils/seeddms-xmldump --config /var/www/html/seeddms2/conf/settings.xml --folder=13 > ~/xmldump-f13.xml  (only trying with one folder prior to going big bang :) )

sudo utils/seeddms-xmlimport --config /var/www/html/seeddms3/seeddms60x/conf/settings.xml --file /home/ursa/xmldump-f13.xml  (wouldn’t let me run w/o sudo)

Not sure if this is related, I'm not able to delete any of the items imported..."error while deleting 'x'" even if I switch to the original owner. No errors in the seeddms log files seemingly related to this issue.
At the end of the day I want to dump all documents from seeddms2 -->seeddms3.

I once started an extension called 'internal link' which is similar to a symlink in a file system. It was never finished because of lots of small problems, like access rights, notifications, etc.

I already did some changes which may partly solve the problem. The problem is basically that seeddms tried to create the preview while generating the list of documents within a folder. If a single preview generation fails, the whole list isn't shown. I removed that part and delegate the preview generation to op/op.Preview.php. Now, if a preview cannot be created, the list of documents will still be created, but that single preview image will be missing.

Is it possible to create a document entry that simply acts as a cross reference to one uploaded in a different folder? I don't want to upload the same document twice to achieve this.
