ito is an open‑source JavaScript library for serverless, browser‑to‑browser communication designed for use on devices with or without user input interfaces, such as IoT devices, mobile devices, tablets, and desktops, enabling peer messaging and data sharing via short passcodes and cloud‑backed pairing without an application server.
Features
- Serverless operation: no backend infrastructure needed, only Firebase or Kii Cloud for cloud support
- Browser-to-browser messaging via simple JavaScript API (ito.send, ito.on('message', ...))
- Passcode-based pairing mechanism: short codes or QR codes instead of exposing IDs
- Support for both IoT devices (e.g. Raspberry Pi, CHIRIMEN) and standard HTML5 browsers or Node.js environments
- Anonymous device pairing without revealing persistent identifiers, enhancing privacy
