RSG is a new software management system. We call it a software management system rather than a package management system as it is designed to integrate with LIMS (LibraNext Image Management System). Traditional package managers do more than install software - they directly alter the configuration of system components. This is both insecure and instable. RSG and LIMS work together to make sure that RSG is solely managing software - configuration management is taken care of through LIMS. LIMS then ensures that poorly written or packaged software doesn't corrupt the system. RSG is designed to be fast, but does have some advanced features such as version restoration.
