"More is felt not possible, and hardly necessary."

    Posted 2023-09-01

Pros: PRTG is an extremely useful monitoring tool with a seemingly endless range of functions, at least once out of the realm of "the possible" is felt here no limit, because you can somehow bend everything to your liking, and if you ever get stuck, Paessler's support conjures a BETA sensor out of the bag, and you are provided with what you would like. Properly exposed, and sensibly configured and maintained, hardly any wishes remain unfulfilled, and if they do, they are at least of an exotic nature, and somehow the girls and guys from the support department manage to bend an existing sensor so that it can be monitored after all.

Cons: Sometimes I am a bit overwhelmed because of the clearly winding paths to the goal, and here a much more extensive knowledge base would be much more helpful, but as already mentioned, the support helps you with almost all questions, so that you ultimately get to your goal.

From a certain performance level, i.e. > 1,000 active sensors, the sheet metal under the PRTG core should be well performing and have a really fast network connection to the probes, otherwise the whole thing becomes a bit sluggish.

Overall: Good product, very good support (extremely important!), and in the standards area, a pretty complete portfolio in terms of scope of services.

"I could not do my job without PRTG Network Monitor"

    Posted 2023-08-29

Pros: * The 100 sensor Free Licence is so good that I use PRTG in community volunteer work for very small system monitoring applications.
    * The ease of adding devices, automatically discovering them and alerting set on threholds that I can control is fantastic.
    * The ability to store comments in the Sensors, Devices and branches of the Hierarchy tree is brilliant. We often use PRTG as a knowledge repository for comments and pertinent information about a site or system.
    * The flexibility to easily rearrange items and modify the setup is brilliant
    * I love having a GUI Desktop app as well as the Web interface to use

Cons: * The web interface is difficult to use for very large deployments, but the Desktop app does a brilliant job, so it doesn't matter really!

Overall: PRTG is a tool that is critical to my daily work in infrastructure. I could not do the job I do without it.
PRTG is so useful, I use PRTG in both my work and personal life in order to give me the insight I need to support my users with the quickest possible turnaround.
PRTG makes me look like a super hero because I have my finger on the pulse and have all the information I need at my fingertips.
I can't rate PRTG Network Monitor highly enough, I highly recommend.

    "Great monitoring tool"

    Posted 2023-06-02

Pros: I had the opportunity to use an exceptional monitoring tool as PRTG that has truly transformed the way I manage my business operations. This tool has exceeded my expectations in every aspect, and I am thrilled to share my experience with others.

From the moment I started using this monitoring tool, I was impressed by its user-friendly interface and intuitive design. Setting up the tool was a breeze, and within minutes, I had all my systems and applications seamlessly integrated, ready to be monitored. The tool's comprehensive documentation and excellent customer support further aided in the smooth onboarding process.

One of the standout features of this monitoring tool is its ability to provide real-time insights into the performance of my systems. With its robust monitoring capabilities, I am constantly informed about critical metrics, such as response times, resource utilization, and error rates. The customizable dashboards allow me to visualize the data that matters most to my business, enabling quick decision-making and proactive troubleshooting.

Cons: Internet Connectivity Dependency: As a web-based tool, this monitoring solution relies on a stable internet connection. In the event of an internet outage or slow connectivity, there may be a temporary disruption in real-time monitoring and alerting.

Limited Functionality Offline: Without an active internet connection, accessing or viewing monitoring data may be limited or unavailable. This could be problematic in situations where immediate access to historical data is required, but internet access is unavailable.

Potential Security Risks: As with any web-based tool, there may be inherent security risks associated with transmitting data over the internet. It is crucial to ensure that the tool has robust security measures in place, such as encryption and authentication protocols, to protect sensitive business information.

Browser Compatibility: While most web-based tools strive for compatibility across multiple browsers, there can still be variations in performance and functionality. Users may encounter issues or discrepancies when accessing the monitoring tool using certain browsers or older versions.

Limited Customization Options: While the tool offers a range of monitoring features, some users may find limitations in terms of customization options. Certain specific monitoring requirements or unique configurations may not be easily accommodated within the tool's existing framework.

Overall: The PRTG offers a powerful and reliable solution for businesses looking to monitor their systems and applications effectively. With its user-friendly interface, easy setup process, and comprehensive documentation, the tool ensures a smooth onboarding experience.

The real-time monitoring capabilities, coupled with customizable dashboards, provide valuable insights into system performance and enable quick decision-making. The alerting system is robust and versatile, offering various notification options to promptly address any anomalies or potential issues.

Scalability is another strength of the tool, allowing businesses to seamlessly monitor a growing number of systems without compromising performance. Data security measures, such as encryption and access controls, instill confidence in protecting sensitive information.

However, it's important to consider the web-based nature of the tool, which may introduce dependencies on internet connectivity and potential limitations when offline. Security risks associated with transmitting data over the internet should also be taken into account. Additionally, customization options may be limited for users with unique monitoring requirements.

Despite these potential drawbacks, the overall performance, reliability, and ease of use make this monitoring tool a valuable asset for businesses of all sizes. Its ability to provide real-time insights, proactive alerting, and scalability make it a must-have tool for efficient business operations.

    Posted 2023-05-23

Pros: I like the fact that the alerts and warnings are very intuitive to view, as well as the fact that the monitoring system can be used on many and various network devices, with tailor-made sensors for each monitorable resource.

Cons: I don't like that several sensors of the same network are displayed individually when the network is completely down.
For example, it would be better if a general warning is displayed for the entire network.

Overall: My overall experience is that PRTG monitoring is very convenient for managing all network alerts of very large organizations, but also for small companies.
